The competitive Dota 2 scene in South America continues to face challenges as Mad Kings, a prominent team, has announced the disbandment of its roster. This decision comes after one of the team’s players, Steven ‘StingeR’ Vargas, received a sudden account ban during the DreamLeague Season 22 qualifiers.

Valve, the game’s developer, has been cracking down on rule breakers and smurf accounts, leading to a wave of bans. StingeR’s account was banned live during a match, causing him to disconnect and leaving his team at a disadvantage. Another teammate, David ‘Parker’ Nicho Flores, was also caught playing on StingeR’s account, which potentially impacted his ability to participate in the event.
As a result of these incidents, Mad Kings suffered a default loss and were eliminated from the tournament. Less than 24 hours later, the organization decided to part ways with the entire roster, which they had signed just a month prior. The team expressed their respect for Valve’s rules and clarified that the ban was not due to account boosting.
This disbandment adds to the growing list of South American teams losing sponsors, following the footsteps of Evil Geniuses and beastcoast after The International 2023. Meanwhile, Heroic emerged victorious in the DreamLeague Season 22 qualifiers, securing the sole South American invite to the tournament.
With this development, Mad Kings’ players are now free agents, and the organization has decided to take a break from the competitive scene for the time being. The Dota 2 community eagerly awaits the return of Mad Kings and hopes for a more stable and prosperous future for South American esports.
