The two-star players from Gaimin Gladiators had planned to play a ranked game together for practice, but they were unable to do so due to long queue times. Just a few months ago, they could have easily used their smurf accounts with lower MMR to play. However, Valve’s recent crackdown on smurfing has put an end to that.
Since January 15, Valve has been taking strict action against account sharing and smurfing in Dota 2. They have banned several professional players’ smurf accounts and even dropped the associated rosters from their organizations. ESL has also made rule changes to support Valve’s stance on smurfing.
While some pro players have accepted the new guidelines, others are feeling the negative impact. Even when playing solo, it can take over 40 minutes to find a match due to the limited number of high-ranked players available. In other competitive games, in-house leagues and platforms like FaceIt have provided solutions for professional players. However, in Dota 2, these leagues have often been short-lived due to drama or players’ preference for ranked matches.
It remains to be seen how professional Dota 2 players will adapt to this new challenge. Will they find alternative ways to practice and compete, or will they continue to face long queue times? Only time will tell.
