Call of Duty players are once again expressing their frustration over the game’s new voice chat rules. The updated Code of Conduct now explicitly prohibits derogatory comments based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, culture, faith, mental or physical abilities, or country of origin. The company emphasizes that all members of the community should be treated with dignity and respect.
While this news is welcomed by many, some Call of Duty players are not happy with the changes. They argue that the social aspect of the game is disappearing, with lobbies becoming ghost towns where no one talks. They long for the “good old days” when they could freely express themselves in voice chat without consequences.
However, it’s important to note that Call of Duty remains incredibly popular, with Modern Warfare 3 being the second highest-selling title of 2023. The franchise has consistently been the highest-selling in the U.S. for 15 years in a row.
Activision encourages players to report any instances of disruptive behavior. Surprisingly, the findings reveal that only one in five users actually report such behavior, indicating a concerning trend of underreporting.
So, if you encounter sexist, homophobic, racist, or other hateful language while playing Call of Duty, don’t hesitate to use the report button. Let’s work together to create a more inclusive and respectful gaming community.
