Returning to the main VALORANT lineup are Alexander “jawgemo” Mor and coach Christine “potter” Chi, who played pivotal roles in the team’s success last year. However, the rest of the starting roster that claimed the Champions 2023 trophy has moved on to new teams.
Joining jawgemo in the starting roster are Derrek Ha, Nicholas “NaturE” Garrison, Phat “supamen” Le, and Vincent “Apotheon” Le. These talented players were reported to be joining Evil Geniuses earlier this month. While jawgemo and Derrek competed on the VCT stage last year, NaturE, supamen, and Apotheon have proven themselves on Challengers rosters.
Evil Geniuses’ roster announcement marks the end of a turbulent offseason. Following their unexpected triumph at Champions 2023, the players were faced with a difficult decision: take a significant pay cut or find new teams. Some players, like Demon1 and Ethan, chose to join NRG, while others, like Boostio, were pursued by other organizations.
Throughout the offseason, Evil Geniuses faced organizational challenges, including the departure of its CS2 division and its exit from the LCS. Reports of a crunch culture and a skeleton crew of employees further added to the turmoil.
With its focus now solely on VALORANT, Evil Geniuses is determined to make a mark in the upcoming VCT Americas Kickoff event. The team will begin the tournament with a one-match bye on February 16.
