NRG VALORANT coach criticizes Riot over Patch 8.01: ‘Making VALORANT like Palworld’
VALORANT, the popular competitive FPS game, requires regular updates to maintain balance and keep things fresh. However, Riot Games’ approach to balancing the game has come under fire from players and esports personalities, including NRG coach Chet Singh.

Chet expressed his frustration with Riot’s recent moves in a series of tweets. He compared the latest patch notes, which nerfed Skye, to the game Palworld, known for its simplistic “Pokémon with guns” survival experience. Chet sarcastically commented, “Can’t wait for Patch 8.02 where they basically make the game Palworld.”
Chet also highlighted the annoyance caused by last-minute changes for esports professionals. He expressed his disappointment with Riot’s failure to implement highly requested features like a replay system, while continuing to make significant changes to the game.
Furthermore, Chet criticized Riot’s decision to limit teams to five matches per regular season split in the VCT 2024 schedule. He suggested that Riot could have come up with a better plan instead of opting for an inferior idea.
Riot has been following a pattern of “kill strong agents, introduce weak agents” for some time now. While this approach has helped balance the meta in VALORANT, it has also resulted in the loss of unique characteristics and designs for several agents, including Chamber, Jett, and now Skye. These drastic meta changes just before an esports season have a significant impact on professional teams and their preparation.
Despite the frustrations, the nerf to Skye in Patch 8.01 is expected to bring about a shift in the initiator meta, leading to exciting counter compositions in future matches.
