Popular gaming streamer criticizes Riot Games for a major sales mistake that allegedly caused the company’s recent layoffs. Asmongold, known for his Twitch streams, claims that Riot Forge, a project aimed at creating Runeterra-based games, failed due to overpriced titles. Despite being based on the League of Legends universe, these games did not stand out and their high price tags led to their downfall. Asmongold argues that Riot Games should be held accountable for their marketing and finance team’s decision to set unreasonably high prices. He suggests that the company should have considered their core audience, who are accustomed to playing free-to-play games like League, VALORANT, and TFT. By failing to cater to their existing player base, Riot missed the mark with their Forge releases. Asmongold concludes that the marketing and finance team responsible for these decisions should be replaced. Riot eventually decided to shut down Riot Forge, leaving no room for improvement in marketing and pricing strategies. The downsizing also affected Legends of Runeterra, although it has not been completely abandoned by Riot Games.
