According to the report, Counter-Strike accounted for a staggering 56% of all wagers made, solidifying its position as the most popular game for betting. League of Legends followed at 24%, while Dota 2 secured the third spot with 14% of wagers. Surprisingly, Call of Duty also made it to the top five with 2% of all bets placed.

The report also highlighted the most popular event for betting, which was the IEM, claiming 10% of all wagers made in 2023. The ESL Pro League closely followed with 9% of bets.

When it comes to the top CS esports tournaments for betting, the IEM took the lead, followed by the ESL Pro League and BLAST Premier. The report also revealed the top five teams that were favorites among bettors in Counter-Strike.

Comparing the findings to the previous year, the top five esports games remained the same. However, some League of Legends tournaments and teams managed to secure a place in the rankings for esports bets.

Interestingly, the report highlighted that CS:GO was the preferred choice for betting in every region except LATAM, where League of Legends took the lead. Counter-Strike 2, which was released in September 2023, managed to become the fourth most popular esports betting title in Europe. Brazil was also recognized as a breakout region for esports betting.

Looking ahead to 2024, Niclas Sundell from Abios shared insights into the future of the esports betting industry. Sundell emphasized the importance of understanding what products and services esports fans are looking for. He mentioned that co-streaming and ‘watch parties’ will play a significant role in esports broadcasts in the coming year. The report also highlighted the growing popularity of player propositions and the difference between pre-match and live esports betting. Notably, 60% of all wagers made were focused on live, in-play bets.

The esports betting industry is expanding rapidly, and it will be fascinating to see how it evolves in the future.
